How BoomBrix works

1. PHONE

Song stored as digital data (numbers)

2. BLUETOOTH

Radio waves carry packets across the room

3. CIRCUIT BOARD

Packets reassembled; numbers become an electrical signal (DAC)

4. AMPLIFIER

Weak signal becomes a strong signal

5. COIL + MAGNET

Electrical signal becomes back-and-forth motion

6. CONE

Motion becomes pressure waves in the air

7. AIR

The sound wave travels

8. EARS + BRAIN

Motion becomes nerve signals, then music

BATTERY: Feeds the circuit board and amplifier
BRICK SHELL: Encloses and protects nodes 3–6

Your song starts out as numbers on your phone. Bluetooth sends the numbers across the room as invisible radio messages. Inside BoomBrix, a little computer turns the numbers back into electricity, and the battery gives it the push it needs. The electricity makes a coil into a magnet that jumps back and forth. The coil pulls a stiff cone with it. The cone wiggles the air. The wiggling air reaches your ears, and your brain says: music! And the bumps on the brick hold it all tightly onto whatever you built.
